The Bell Road Barn Players of Parkville, Missouri is holding joint auditions for the Restoration comedy, SHE STOOPS TO CONQUER by Oliver Goldsmith, directed by Shari Wassergord and the Hitchcock whodunit, THE 39 STEPS by Patrick Barlow and John Buchan, directed by Matt Hentges. Auditions are walk-in, cold readings, but monologues will be heard by the directors if you are more comfortable. There are roles for adult actors of all ages and experience levels. All ethnicities encouraged to audition.
Please bring a list of conflicts, a picture of yourself and a theatrical resume if you have one.

Rehearsals for SHE STOOPS TO CONQUER will be 3 weekday nights a week and Saturday mornings. Performances are Jun 15-17 and 22-24.

Hardcastle-Male 40's and up Blowhard father, infatuated with all that is old-fashioned
Mrs. Hardcastle-Female 40's and up Comic, meddling, clueless mother, must be okay with wearing tight, unflattering costume

THE 39 STEPS-Play description
Mix a classic Hitchcock masterpiece with a juicy spy novel, add a dash of Monty Python and you have The 39 Steps. A fast-paced whodunit for anyone who loves the magic of theatre! Winner of 2 Tony and Drama Desk Awards in 2008 and recipient of the Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Comedy! The show is packed with nonstop laughs, over 150 zany characters, an onstage plane crash, handcuffs, missing fingers and some good old-fashioned romance!
THE 39 STEPS will be performed July 27-29 and August 3-5.
Rehearsals will be Sunday-Thursday nights.
THE 39 STEPS Roles available:
RICHARD HANNAY (Age Range 30-40) – Charming and dashing leading man. A British orphan, involved in international espionage and intrigue. Standard British dialect, physical comedy and good comic timing required.
ANNABELLE SCHMIDT/PAMELA/MARGARET (age range 25-40) This is the only scripted female role in the show. The same actress in meant to play all 3 roles. The role calls for multiple dialects (German, Scottish, & British romantic). All three dialects will be required. Must have excellent comic timing and great versatility.
MAN #1 & #2 - THE CLOWNS (age range 20-60) These two actors play ALL OF THE OTHER CHARACTERS in the show not already mentioned above. (approximately 130 characters) These role calls for exceptional physical and verbal comic ability. Must be able to provide multiple dialects, primarily European. These actors play multiple characters, sometimes simultaneously therefore creativity, confidence, focus and stamina are a must.
This is a face paced comedy and all roles demand stamina, versatility, and excellent comic timing.
